Lot 525		1800 LM-1, Rarity 3. PCGS graded MS-63. Nice old time toning with iridescent hues of green and gold on both sides over fiery luster. Well struck on the obverse, the reverse actually shows a slightly double struck mint error, with a modest shift on the stars, wings and Motto. A glorious example of this early Draped Bust Half dime, an unheard of grade for most collectors. Lot 526		1801 LM-2, Rarity 4. PCGS graded AU-58. A frosty white coin that offers strong luster and mint frost, rather unheard of for an early Draped bust half dime. Most of these that did survive show far more wear and offer little or no luster. The 1801 half dimes are a tiny mintage compared with those of 1800, and precious few offer the glorious quality found here. While the top of Liberty's head is softly struck on the high points, most of her curls show good separation from her ear and below. Scattered light marks are found when closely examined, as one expects for even brief circulation. Only 27,760 minted. Pop 5; 7 finer at PCGS. Lot 527		1803. Large 8. LM-2, Rarity-4. PCGS graded AU-58. CAC. PQ. Nice even toning of deep golden gray with slightly lighter silver on the high points of the design. The strike is amazing as Liberty's hair curls show incredible separation and bold definition. A scarce variety in all grades, and this magnificent coin represents our countries smallest silver coin at the time of issue, and is of historical significance. Rarely are these early half dimes found this well preserved, and so enticing numismatically. A prize for the astute numismatist. Very close to Mint State. Only 37,850 struck. Pop 6; 7 finer at PCGS. Lot 535		1834. LM-4, Rarity 6 as Proof. NGC graded Proof 66+. Lovely deep blue and lilac toning with fiery golden hues on both sides. The fields are highly reflective as expected for an early Proof coin, with full mirroring in the fields while the devices are satiny and well frosted. The devices are all boldly struck. The surfaces are simply incredible for this early proof, and it has been carefully preserved since the day it was struck. These early proof coins are extraordinarily rare, often with mintages under 5 pieces, with 10 pieces unusual. Finding one at all is a huge challenge, and this top quality gem with such exquisite toning is a rare opportunity. Pop 2; tied for the finest examples graded at both services. Lot 544		1856. PCGS graded Proof 65. CAC. PQ. Wonderful blue and russet toning on both sides. This is a low mintage early proof coin that spans the initial era at the Philadelphia Mint when proofs were struck in tiny numbers if at all, this being true until the early 1850s. Demand and availability shifted right as these 1856 half dimes in proof were struck, with a total of 50 pieces being coined, far higher than a typical proof coin run of the prior years, but nowhere near the 100s seen struck just a few years later. Hence this is one of the first "available" (in a relative sense) dates for a collector to obtain, with much larger and more consistent mintages starting in 1859. The diagnostics of this rare proof included the final two digits of the date that look somewhat crushed or flattened, but the strong depth of mint frost on the devices and deep reflectivity are perfectly preserved. All these 1856 half dimes show this unusual crushed feature on the date. A coin that is at least one point undergraded. Only 50 pieces struck. Pop 2; 6 finer at PCGS.
